About Coach Ron & big basketball

Our Mission & Passion:

When Coach Ron evaluated the state of the basketball community and the quality of play in this area over four years ago, we was not satisfied.  The Tampa Bay area has been described as "average" and "mediocre" overall.

There have always been pockets of great players and coaches from this area, but there has never been a state-wide or national recognition that Tampa Bay is the place to come to find a deep and wide pool of basketball talent and respectful prospects for major college coaches to see and recruit into their programs.

Currently, we have more personal trainers and serious programs than ever in the history of this area.  Most of the best players are currently sophomores or younger, so the future looks much brighter now.

Additionally, we have a well-spring of year-round teaching and coaching programs from which high-level players can choose.  A significant number of players are now training with multiple elite coaches and programs.

Therefore, the rate of improvement is rapidly climbing in the Greater Tampa Bay area.

Coach Ron hopes that the leaders in the basketball community will work together in their scheduling and curriculum to produce the best student-athletes from both genders possible.

One interesting marker, which I have focused upon, is to help our area produce 20+ scholarship-players in the class of 2011.  Therefore, we need to identify the top 20 - 30 prospects and help them mightlly achieve their goal of earning a college basketball scholarship.  If we can achieve this goal in the Tampa Bay community, then we will have a strong foundation in place upon which to build.  I would not be surprised if about 10 of the scholarship-achievers is female.

In order to be legitimate prospects, our best players need to be outstanding citizens, team-oriented, mult-dimensional, excellent shooters and have high gpa records and SAT/ACT scores.  Oftentimes, a very good player will lose their full scholarship offer to a better prepared opponent.

Many players are forced to settle for partial scholarships or offers from weaker programs, because they do not choose to finish like a pro.  Wise players need to begin their sprint in their sophomore years and continue to accelerate their training and intensity throughout their junior and senior seasons.

When a developing member player is able to moment-by-moment instantly select the correct Superstar Signature Strategy, Technique and Move while playing on offense, defense, transition or in special situations; then that player possesses a very high basketball IQ.  Many players can pull up a Signature Move occasionally, but only an elite player is capable of continuously recalling and executing with the best Signature Move choice time-after-time.

In order to become a 3-D or triple-double type of player, our members should drill themselves continuously and hold themselves accountable on the court to sequentially and correctly select the best moves.  Is your child able to continuously select the best Signature moves, yet?

The biggest challenge your child may ever achieve in high school is to learn the Superstar Signature Series and continuously speed-read the opposition and select the best choice regardless of the situation.

In order to speed up the learning process for you child, we have named our Superstar Signature Strategies, Techniques and Moves after the particular NBA Great who made it famous and effective.  Instead of going through complex explanations for every skill drill, Coach Ron simply calls out the names of LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Pete Maravich, Manu Ginobili, Charles Barkley, and the names of other NBA legends.  The experienced and skilled players lead the drill in a follow-the-leader format with the new members placed at the end of the line to watch a series of more experienced players demonstrate the Signature move ahead of them.  This method is tested and proven.

How soon would you like your child to start learning the whole series of Superstar Signature Series?

What Is BIG Basketball?

BIG Basketball is the training and developmental program founded and developed by Coach Ron.  The training began on March 11, 2005 at the Long Center in Clearwater, FL.

BIG Basketball is now into its fifth year of training of middle through high school players.

Our focus has changed from working with a wide variety of players with various commitment levels to a program focusing upon helping extremely serious and coach-able student-athletes who are actively and aggressively seeking college basketball scholarships and to become dominant players on their aau and school teams.

About one year ago, the training emphasis moved from fairly traditional training to the deep and intense implementation of Superstar Signature Strategies, Techniques and Moves of the best NBA players in the history of the game.  After pouring over video clips and careful analysis of the games of the all-time Greats, Coach Ron has baptized his member students into this new curriculum.  As a result, the growth rate in the active members games has been nothing short of spectacular.

Each session, the lessons are becoming more advanced, because they are built upon the foundational lessons of previous practices and training.

The lessons are fresh, exciting and under constant revision to ensure that our member players are receiving the best instruction possible.  Coach Ron is constantly watching college, pro and international competition to find the latest effective trends and to implement them into his training.  Our member players will be more likely to catch a scout's eye, if they are already using the best techniques of the best coaches, when they are evaluated.

A new lesson focus is the Speed-Reading Series.  Coach Ron has come to realize that unless a scholarship-prospect can speed read the court, they probably will not get a scholarship offer.  This lesson series will help to remove the jumbled and hazy vision of your child and slow-down the action; so that your child can make the best decisions.

Coach Ron likes to teach and coach "outside the box", because he wants the learning curve to constantly accelerate so that our area will be one of the best locations in the world for basketball excellence.

The clearest indication of our unique approach is the massive use and focus upon the Superstar Signature Series.  Our players must be attentive and serious to learn them, because the NBA legends have taken years of intense training to perfect them.  Coach Ron is asking the member players to learn the basics in one session and continue to build and perfect the Signature Series through daily practices of their own volition.

Many parents, like Coach Ron, are not satisfied with the typical training and progress rates of historical programs.  They yearn and expect much more for their children, because they realize the time is so short.  If you are a parent who wants your child to experience more than the same old, same old; then why not sign up for BIG Basketball?

Why not give Coach Ron a call now or shoot an email?
